Installations are also part of the discovery process with an image and are part of an effort to push an image to its limit to engage the viewer. Moving an image from behind a conventional frame to a new life in a 3D space is only the beginning. An example of this is the series “The Passage of Time and Emotion”. This series illustrates how the construction of an installation is a series of layers. The process begins with the initial image capture and processing. The projection of this image creates a new layer in the image with its capture and processing. By printing this image at various sizes, cutting the image into a shape, then placing the prints on a surface, the creation of an installation provides the opportunity for the exploration of a new layer to the image with its image capture and processing. There are many possibilities for the installation depending on the site and the placement of the images on different surfaces. This process allows for the examination of the many possibilities when creating new layers an image. For example, this progression may provide a method to give a new context and meaning to the original images. These steps in finding new ways to engage the viewer with the creation of an installation is the driving inspiration behind my work.
